I love to exercise, whether it be rowing, cycling, tennis, golf or tiddlywinks! I enjoy the release of endorphins or whatever you want to call them when one exerts themselves! We all need to get our blood pumping for myriad health reasons! This is all good, but sometimes I have a hard time taking it easy, and letting my body get the rest and recovery it needs.
One day, I saw an ad for Shakti Mats, and it piqued my interest. What is a Shakti Mat? Think: Bed of Nails! Here is a product you simply lie down on, it has thousands of little spikes that poke you, and somehow it magically helps you relax and recover. Or so they say... I checked out the website, watched the videos, and after a couple days decided to try it out (There was a return policy, so what's the risk, right?)
As soon as it arrived, I put it on the floor and gently laid down on it. It was uncomfortable at first, as you would expect. Then after a few minutes, your body adjusts to it. Then after a few minutes, you get this warm sensation that is extremely calming. After a couple days of using the Shakti mat, I could lay on it for 20 minutes and I felt great afterwards! They even have a companion app that has some guided relaxation sessions with a calming female Australian accent. (I have even fallen asleep on this thing before!)
I do it every day now, when I just need to take a break in the afternoon, or as I wind down at the end of the day. I look forward to it even!
